Trained as a mathematician, a graduate of the University
of Pennsylvania, I spent 19 years as a computer systems designer
before devoting myself full-time to my art 17 years ago. I
currently work primarily in silk and glass, creating bright
scarves, clothing, ties, jewelry and fused glass pieces. I
am also currently exploring creating jewelry, combining my
own fused and lampworked glass, with colored metals like niobium
and anodized aluminum and my hand dyed silk.
Colors and textures inspire my work. I love playing with
both of them, and using them, particularly in my fiber work,
to create a three dimensional quality in a two dimensional
piece. In my glass work I again use color and texture, as
well as depth with the use of transparent glass to achieve
the effects I want.
In my fiber work I love exploring different techniques.
Currently I am working with nuno felt, shibori felt, devore
on silk/rayon, mono-silkscreening and painting on silk with
dyes.
I currently teach for the Art League School in Alexandria
and last spring taught a workshop at the Renwick Gallery.
My work can be seen at my studio(#330) in the Torpedo Factory
as well as in the Potomac Craftsmen Gallery (#18) in Alexandria,
Virginia.
